For a few weeks, we have been renovating a customer home, including their kitchen, basement and master bathroom. The house itself called for our input on what to do in their dining room with their over 20ft ceilings. The room was currently painted wall to wall in white matt paint (which attracts all the dirt and grime). We suggested that she create an accent wall to really accentuate the room’s height. She had a general theme in her home of black, white, and some gray colors, so she chose to let us go for it!
First, we drew out a Basic pattern that we thought would fit with all of her décor in her room.
We patched and prepped for paint on the wall. Next, we started with the paint color, Semi-Gloss Black Onyx PPG Paint (The sheen makes all the difference). It was a shock at first to go from bright white to almost entirely black, but it grew on us almost instantly. The home owner was starting to see it come to life.
Next, we started applying each cut to a very particular angle of the trim bits. To really make sure that it looks not only like a piece of artwork, but to prevent the cuts from touching the connecting walls and give it a really finished look, we began with a boarder around the entire wall. We just kept going with the guidance of the home owner as to where she would like the additional pieces after we began cutting trim pieces to suit the design.
